Message from the Australian Ambassador to France to ABIE France Members
It has been a great pleasure to meet ABIE France President Bernard Tabary, and Veronica Comyn, Vice-president, so soon after my assumption of duties in Paris, and to receive an introductory briefing on ABIE France and its interests. In keeping with past practice, I have gladly accepted Bernard’s invitation to take up the position of Honorary President of ABIE France.
I am very pleased to return to France and to serve as Australia’s Ambassador, supporting our strong and growing bilateral relationship. ABIE France plays an important role in our people-to-people and commercial ties, particularly as we work towards an ambitious and comprehensive free trade agreement with the European Union (EU). When concluded, the FTA will provide significant opportunities for both Australian and French businesses, and will deliver new prospects for our businesses and industries exporting goods and services to the EU and vice versa.
2020 has certainly been a challenging year for government and business, forcing us to take up new ways of communication and engagement. I was very impressed to hear how ABIE France members have continued to engage across the membership in France and the broader European network, despite these challenges. In the New Year, I hope to be able to meet you all in person at ABIE France events, or at one of the many activities taking place as part of Australia now.
In the meantime, I wish you and your families a safe and happy holiday season and all the best for the New Year.
